Contemporary and Impressionist Framed Art work

Artwork whether it's an original oil painting or a signed print are the most common types of wall decor that really show the are artistic side of our personality. Although framed artwork is subjective to the eye of the beholder, it does generally reflect who we are and gives more incite to our own personal tastes in design and colors.

In homes and particularly office's, landscapes are very popular, Impressionist artwork is the next big seller. For most of us we simply choose what we like and decide if it will go with our home decor before we buy it. And really isn't that what's important.

Size and how a print is hung is very important. If there are no other types of wall decor visible it is best to go with something with a larger frame. Or multiple prints with different geometric shapes. Group these in three's for a striking impression or if the same size and shape hang them on the wall at different levels.

Picture framed art project

A very cool idea I came across from womansday.com was to make your own glass picture framed nature scene using grass leaves and flowers.

The view of this picture is against another window in the home so you are seeing two views. Although by itself as a wall decoration it looks just as good.

You could use just flowers or anything your imagination can come up with. Today it's leaves, grass and flowers.

Recap of Materials needed:
Picture frame of any size.
2 panes of glass the same size as the inside of the frame.
Collage materials - leaves, grass and pressed flowers.
Paint or stain for the frame.
Thumb tacks or other picture frame screws to hold back covering.
Screw eyes and or nails.
Hanging wire or fishing line.
2 heavy books.
Finally a couple of paint brushes.

For one frame: Lay the empty frame on a flat work surface. Then experiment by laying out various arrangements of the collage materials (leaves, grass, paper,
fabric, flowers etc.).

If using leaves, preserve them by spraying with several light coats of clear acrylic spray. When satisfied with the design, clean both pieces of glass.

Lay the first pane down on a sheet of white paper (to add contrast to the materials) on the work surface.

Position the arrangement on the glass; place the second sheet of glass over it. Place one or two heavy books on top of the glass for about one hour to press arrangement flat.

Meanwhile, paint or embellish the frame if desired; let dry thoroughly. Attach the turn buttons to the frame back.

Make certain they won't show through to the front by placing them close to the outside frame edges. If using a narrow frame, try thumbtacks instead. Drive in the screw eyes and attach the hanging wire.

Do not drill or hammer on the, frame after the glass is installed. Once the composition is pressed and the frame prepared, carefully place the glass into the frame and secure it with the turn buttons (or position the thumbtacks at the inside edges of the frame to hold the glass in place).
