Every home and office needs a globe of the world and a map

First choose by what you want the world globe to be used for. Is it just a decorative accent or is it going to be used for educational purposes. Floor standing globes can be used for both.

Illuminated globes have internal bulbs that light up the sphere from within; some even have a unique 2-Way lighting feature that enables you to view different types of physical or political information when the globe is illuminated and on standby.

With geographical globes the terrain is presented three dimensionally. This gives you a more tangible concept of geographic features by replicating the texture of the earth.

Inflatable world globes are more like beach-balls and can be deflated for easy storage. These are excellent educational toys for children.

Three different ways you can educate yourself and have interesting home or office decor at the same time

Celestial and world maps

Selections range from country maps and world maps to celestial maps and historic maps. We feature many maps for teaching like our pull-down maps, reversible maps, and laminated maps.

Certain models have world time zone dials, which allow you to determine the current time at any location. There are two basic components that are important to consider when buying, the mount and the base. The mount is designed to hold the globe in place and the base is designed to support the entire unit.

There are five basic ways to mount a sphere: meridians, inclination mounts, hanging mounts, electromagnetic mounts, and resting mounts.

A full meridian allows complete, dual-axis rotation of the world and the semi meridian is fo single axis rotation.

Globes made with an inclination mount provide the same single-axis mobility as a semi-meridian, but are mounted on a spire instead of a meridian. In certain models, globes float mid-air within an electromagnetic field while others simply rest in a base.

The base support serves as the foundation for entire unit.

Pedestal globe are mounted directly onto the base, allowing the rotation along a single axis. With sculptured bases, your world globe would rest directly into a cradle. The other globe bases that you may see are post styles mounted on a single column and floor standing globes where the world rests on either a tripod or a four legged stand. The picture below gives you an idea on the different types of stands and bases.
