Just what every home needs: a ceiling fanLets forget about the decorative value of ceiling fans for a minute and look at the environmental benefits that it brings to your home. Two of the most important are; 1. They cool down a room when it gets hot This is accomplished by proper air distribution. Heat rises and is replace by cooler air flowing into a room. This is why it is so important to either have a window open slightly or make sure your cold air vents are not blocked. Just make sure that in the summer months you have the fan circulating drawing the air upwards and in the winter, the fan should force the warmer air downwards. A floor fan just pushes warm air around at the seating level and really does nothing to cool the room down. It is just creating a breeze at the same temperature as the room. Now back to the important part buying a modern decorative ceiling fan
Outdoor ceiling fans This selection can be used outdoors as well as indoor. You can also purchase ceiling fan blades.
The three most important rooms to have a ceiling fan that provides proper lightingBedrooms - Most bedrooms already have a light in the ceiling so replacing this with a ceiling fan with a light, installed in it is no problem. As long as the fixture mount can hold the weight of the fan. These are a must if you have teenagers who like to have their room a little on the cooler side. Just be careful if you have bunk beds you don't want the fan close to this area. Living rooms, family and dining rooms - A fan in this room should be more of a decorative feature, so that it adds value to your decor. Colors should match with your furnishings or compliment your floor colors. If you are on a budget then go with a fan in the living room, you use this area more than the dining area. If you have a large common room, where the dining room and living room are joined it doesn't really matter where you hang it. Bamboo is very popular for this room as are styles that have thin blades. Ceiling fan in the kitchen and a new light at the same time If your kitchen gets way to hot during the summer months use this idea that has worked for me. Because my kitchen is rather small and I already had a large light fixture in the main area I couldn't install a ceiling fan there, but I really had to do something because of the heat during the summer. What I did was; I bought a ceiling fan with a light for above my kitchen table. It really cooled this room down, especially when I was cooking. But I didn't want to have the fan all year round because I loved my hanging pendant light above my table. So I get my husband to take down the fan in the fall and replace it with what I like to look at all the time. By doing this I get the best of both worlds, cooler summers and a kitchen lighting that really looks good for Christmas and other holiday seasons. ( I will admit my husband isn't all that fond of changing the fan with lights twice a year. But it is simple to do and it's better than not eating all summer because I am not cooking in a hot kitchen.) What I really enjoy about this is that my kitchen looks like it has been redecorated twice a year. I never get tired of the look. Please note: |
