You will like the finish and craftsmanship of this Edward Meyer grandfather clock
A cable driven grandfather clock is wound by inserting a key or crank. A chain-driven grandfather clock is wound by pulling the chains until the weights are in the correct position. A quartz movement grandfather clock uses batteries to keep time and does not need to be wound. What I like mostly about this traditional design is the clock has a night shut-off lever which allows you to disable the sounds and movements while still keeping the correct time. This to me is important because as much as I like the sound of a pendulum grandfather clock I don't want to hear it when I am sleeping. Many grandfather clocks come with a brass plate, weights, or pendulum that can be engraved with a name or personal message for heirloom purposes. Make sure that the clock includes a winding key and it chimes the hour and once on the half hour. The pendulum length should adjust to make the clock run faster or slower. Where is the best place to display this clock? Anywhere as long as it's not in a damp area or a room that has a lot of humidity. Mostly you see a grandfather clock in a dining room or in the corner of a formal living room. To search Howard miller grandfather clocks go here. |
