Create a comfortable outdoor living area on your patio

Create cool shading with your patio umbrella

shade umbrellasShading is one of the most important features for your patio and garden furniture. Without the proper shade you cannot enjoy your leisure time outdoors.

Patio umbrellas and market umbrellas will not only protect you but will protect your outdoor furniture from fading caused by the harmful rays of the sun.

Have you ever noticed that the straight patio umbrella that just tilts, never seems to block the sun out or create any sort of shade right about the time you are having dinner outside.

The problem is the sun is starting to set and it is not high enough in the sky for your patio umbrella to be of any use.

There is a new style out that many people are finding is a solution to this problem. They are called off set patio umbrellas and with a simple turn will cast a shadow over your dining area and keep the sun out of your eyes.

Benefits of an off-set patio umbrella

  • no pole in the way so you can see the person you are talking to.
  • rotate 360 degrees to follow the sun
  • the best as hot tub shades they can be placed right over top
  • they sit off to the side and not in the middle of the table which is annoying most of the time
  • handy by the pool when there are no trees around that are tall enough for shading

Market umbrellas are great for when you want to take a very large umbrella to the beach or move it around your yard. The only consideration is if you want to take the stand. if you do you should buy the type that is water filled or sand filled, this way you can just dump it out when it is time to go.

Tips for buying the right size umbrella and stand

Umbrellas stands are another consideration when buying. Get the heaviest that you can. For windy areas you will need a stand that weighs at least 70 lbs. Freestanding umbrellas require slightly heavier bases than those that are used in the center of tables.

For example, a 9-foot umbrella that is used with a table requires a 50 lb patio umbrella stand. A free standing umbrella requires no less than a 70-pound or heavier stand.

For a more classic look or to match your wood furniture, a wood patio umbrella with a matching stand is always in style. Sizes from 6" to 11 foot. It is recommended that you choose a size that is larger in diameter than your table.

A 4 foot table with chairs would need a 7 foot or 9 foot umbrella. This would cover the seating area with shade for maximum comfort. Please remember that wood umbrellas only tilt they do not turn.
