Why I chose a slipcover for the cabin instead of buying a new couch

Decorating our summer home has always been a chore because anything we want to do has to be brought in by boat. This of course was an incredibly tiring job if you wanted to replace any furniture. This year we had to do something about the couch. It really was starting to look a little ratty.

I was not looking forward to hauling a large couch down to the beach and then trying to get in on the back of boat and then up a ramp from the wharf. This of course you had to do twice because the old one had to be packed out of the cabin.

After shopping for quite some time, looking for one that wasn't too heavy it finally dawned on me,  why not do what I did at home. That was buy a slipcover for my couch.

This would solve a lot of problems of throwing out the old sofa. I didn't want just any slipcover it had to be one with a little heavier material, something that would last and still look good. I settled on the twill in a neutral color. This material stands up to kids and pets, which is something you want in a summer home. 

They are also wrinkle resistant and machine washable for easy care. It's made of 100% cotton and machine washable if you wash it separately in cold water.

I was going to buy a blue slip cover but decided on a more neutral color because it's easier to match when re-decorating. The nice thing about this is I could just carry it in my backpack.  Once I got back I simply fit it over the couch in about 15 minutes and then be seating on the front deck watching the kids play.
