When decorating and you come to the end of the project, there is always the question what can you use for the finishing touch?

You may not want to add another piece of furniture or accent or it may start to look cluttered.

Just by adding a decorative pillow on a bed or a matching furniture throw that coordinates with the comforter and sheets you can complete your ensemble.

Pillows, comforters and bedding sets are all about textures and feel. These are the items on our beds and couches that makes them all that more comfortable and cozy. Colors should be complimentary but shouldn't blend in too smoothly, they should be more of a contrast to add depth to the furniture.

Quick ways to add a softer feel to a room

For the living room or family room, decorative pillows and slipcovers are the fastest and cheapest way to change the look of a room, or to up-date to a more fashionable look.

For the bedroom the quickest way to warm things up is with a comforter, bed skirt or duvet cover.

First there are the blanket style that you would normally curl up under on a cold night. Second there is what is referred to as a furniture cover that you place over top of a couch or chair to add new color to your room.

Soft and warm faux fur and fleece throw blankets for cool curling up under while watching tv or out on the deck on cool evenings. Add a decorative pillow on top and in minutes you have updated your furniture.

Area rugs another soft furnishing that will give your floors a face lift

You will like using accent rugs in the living more than anywhere else in your home. These can make a rather drab room come alive with color. Rugs are really needed when you have large areas of hardwood or laminate flooring. You need to soften these areas up with something that gives it more texture. Contemporary braided rugs are a soft furnishing that will do this really well.
