Color blocking a decorative wall painting techniqueColor blocking style of painting a room doesn't mean using small chunks of color all over your walls. It is a technique that uses the entire wall or doorway as a frame or to be viewed as one block of color. The technique is usually done on one or two walls as opposed to an entire room It may seem as a big job to tackle but it is just painting with a roller and brush. For instance paint the inside door frame one color say dark red and then a wall that is close by in a lighter shade of green. A dark orange wall could have a brown door frame and say you had a framed in heating duct above it you could paint this a lighter shade of brown or even light blue. Pastels would work very nicely too. Start small normally with the doorway first. Use a bright or highly contrasting color to your wall. Or you can do just one wall behind a console tale or areas below a chair rail. You can use this decorative wall painting technique around artwork to make it stand out more or to focus the eye on a display piece that you want to feature. You can mix shades from the same color family of matte and gloss paint in the same hue. Black and white blocks on a bedroom wall is very striking as would be one dark red column behind the bed. Another decorative idea that is being used is to paint a shelf in a shade different from the adjoining walls to draw your vision over to the shelf and what is one it. Blocking can also soften a room that has a vaulted ceiling or many little nooks or slanted corners. |
