Some rods simply hold hooks that attach to the fabric. Others are much more complicated with a pulley system to open and close the curtains and tracks for several layers of hanging drapery. If you windows already have rods you will have to make sure you purchase suitable replacement or be prepared to change the rods. This can usually be done without any great difficulty. It does add addition expense to your window treatments though. Conventional curtain rods for rod pocket curtains include: single,
double, triple, sash tension curtain rods and Café curtain rods. After the rod has been selected and installed the next curtain accessory or hardware you will require will be hooks of some type. There are basically two types of curtain hooks although they may differ in shape. Some hooks are pronged and slide into the folds of the top of pleated curtains. Others are simply rings that loop through holes in the cloth and onto a rod. Shower curtains use this method most of the time. Some sets are multi layered calling for curtain rods to work in unison movement. Mounting the rod on the wall properly and securely is especially important when you are hanging multi-layered or heavy curtains. Without secure anchoring they will pull from their mounts from the weight of the curtains. Stationary rods include decorative models for hand-pulled curtains attached by tabs, ties, rings, hooks, or clips, as well as concealed types for fixed panels, such as sash curtains, rod-pocket curtains, and valances. Decorative rods such as café rods come in colorful painted finishes as well as brass. The metal-rod category has grown to include rods of assorted diameters and finishes, including bright or antiqued brass, wrought iron, verdigris, brushed nickel, and pewter. |
