Retirment gifts or are they the start of a new hobby
Whether you are looking for a unique gift for a gardener, retirement gift, house warming gift or for someone that wants to start a new hobby, juniper bonsai trees are the best idea yet .
Buying one of these tiny trees for someone is a very thoughtful idea, especially as a retirement present for someone that loves to be out in their garden. The winter months are especially hard for these types of people. Juniper bonsai trees give them an artistic way to relieve stress and to show their craft throughout the year. Later on if there interests get the best of them they can add other varities outdoor bonsai trees.
I really believe you will enjoy giving one of these living ornaments as a gift as much as the person receiving it will enjoy it for many years. For the elderly this is a very good gift idea in that they are not heavy not do they require you to be bending a lot to take car of them. The pruning tools are large enough to fit in anyone’s hands with out casing discomfort.
There are three main species or varieties that most people buy, Juniper bonsai trees, flowering and deciduous for outdoor use. Other information about taking care of each type of tree or where to buy can be found on this site www.the-bonsai-tree.com which is about buying indoor and outdoor bonsai trees with other information on flowering trees and indoor plant care.
The learning curve for pruning and shaping bonsai trees is actually quite simple. With the right tools anyone can get expect great results even beginners. These trees can live for over 100 years if properly maintained, which is also a pretty cool idea if you wanted to keep one in the family as a heirloom.
These gifts would go very well in a living room, office or even in the kitchen area as a home accent or accessory to you other home décor. They are small enough that the pots that you grow them in are just the right size to fit on a coffee or end table. If you wanted to get really into it you can add a bonsai waterfall or place it on a display table that is designed just for this purpose to fit your bonsai pot.
These are also unique gift ideas for someone that is into yoga or meditation principles. You can sit for hours just looking at the intricate design of the branches and leaves. Bonsais have a calming effect when someone is looking at them. If you are fortunate enough to get a flowering tree that also has a fragrance you are lucky.

Window blind controls
When buying blinds think of the type of control you want
I am a huge fan of HunterDouglas window blinds. There selection in the different styles of window treatments is very good. What you don't normally hear about is the quality of the operating mechanisms for raising and lowering these window shades.
Just about every Hunter Douglas product provides standard or optional safety features, though some may offer more than others. Safety in window shades and blinds are an important feature. Many children a year are seriously hurt from the pull cords or the blind falling too quickly when it is lowered.
Having safe window coverings is a serious concern with the elderly and parents of small children or even pets.
Read more about a few of the latest safety features that hunterdouglas has installed on their blinds:
The safety tassel is designed to break open under pressure should a child or pet become entangled in the cord loop. This is a standard feature on all Hunter Douglas horizontal blinds. The cord tensioner is a specially designed cord weight with spring tension and brackets which improves the safety of the cord loop.
- A battery-operated remote control system allows you to raise or lower shades at the touch of a button, which means you don't have a need for cords. (this makes it an ideal choice for someone with arthritis or a disability that prevents them from stretching high) It's a perfect solution for hard-to-reach windows. A timer can be programmed to raise or lower shades at desired times, improving energy efficiency. All with the touch of one button.
- The touch system allows you to raise or lower blinds with a single touch. This cordless system makes raising and lowering blinds and shades easier than ever. Push up to raise and pull down to lower. Your blinds or window shades stay right where you put them. No lift cords for a clean, uncluttered look. This system holds blinds and shades securely in any position - no constant adjusting, making it easy to raise your shades to an even height.
- Vertical blinds outfitted with a wand eliminate looped pull cords completely, replacing them with a wand that remains safely out of a child's reach. This is a really good system for patio doors or large vertical window blinds.
- The glide system is equipped with a single, retractable cord that remains at the same length whether the shade is raised or lowered. When the cords are moved to a slight angle, the shade gently lowers itself. This movement of the cord releases spring tension in a slow, controlled manner and the bottom rail floats down. To stop the lowering at any point, just move the cord to the opposite angle. To raise the shade, simply pull on the cord using short strokes. Each time you pull, the cord retracts to its original length. Constant cord length means there are never any long, dangling cords to detract from the appearance of the shade and also means increased safety for children and pets.
