Bathroom decor ideas

One is the one bathroom decor item that you use the most and has the greatest decorative effect on your bathroom?

That would be your bathroom faucet!

Bathroom sink faucets can easily change a dull sink and counter top to something out of the ordinary. Faucets are easy to install and not that expensive. Their are basically only a few styles but are produced from at least thirty different manufactures. Moen, delta and american standard are just a couple of the more well known bathroom faucet producers.

The styles that you need to view are wall mounted faucets, single hole bathroom faucets and basin faucets (which are the new trend in bathrooms this year)

If you want to change the look of your sink this is the way to go, unless you want to buy a new sink and vanity unit which would be much more expensive.

Bedding for day beds

Daybeds seem to be a hard find when it comes to shopping for sheet sets and blankets. Not too many department stores carry a very large selection for you to choose from.

This company carries a large selection of bedding for daybeds including Euro Shams, fitted sheets and duvet sets. BEDDINGSETS.COM is the place to start looking.

When buying be sure to choose a material that is machine washable. If you dont you will need to buy a couple of sets because you will need something while your comforter is out at the dry cleaners.

Usually you can find this information on the furniture hangtag or on the manufacturer's label. Here is a reference list of those cleaning codes:

WS: This fabric may be cleaned with water-based cleaning agents and foams, as well as with mild, water-free dry cleaning solvents.
W: Use water-based cleaning agents or foams only.
S: Use only mild, water-free dry cleaning solvents.
X: Do not use foam or liquid agents on this fabric. Vacuum or brush lightly to remove soil.

Choosing a washing machine

Lets start by saying that if you choose an expensive washer over one thats around 500 dollars thinking that because its more effiecient, you will probably never get your money back in the long run. They are by far better in performance and quiter, which is normally why you buy the more costly machines.

Front loading machines are quieter and easier on your clothes than top loading washing mackines but are harder to load. This is something to be concerned with if you have a bad back. One detail that you won't be able to check if you buy online is the vibration of the spin cycle of the front loading machines, they can cause the floor to vibrate. The best thing to do is find a friend that has one and ask them, keep in mind what type of flooring they have underneath.

If your laundry room is near a family room or down the hallway near a bedroom, the noise level will be a priority when you buy. The upper end machines will be quieter than a cheap model, Maytag and Whirlpool washing machines are a good choice for sound levels.

The controls you want are also a very important feature. Temperature controls for the hot and cold water need to be automatic so that it controls the temperature of the incoming feed.

If you buy a new front loading machine and this would include the new models of top loaders, you will also have to change your detergent becuase they need a higher quality soap.

When you buy a new machine and use it for the first time you may feel disappointed in that it seemed to take longer to wash your clothes. Well guess what it did! The newer machines especially the end of 2006 and the 2007 models are better at cleaning and are gentler in the process so it does take a few minutes longer in each cycle.

Why a hand towel

Why do you need to have a hand towel in the bathroom instead of just a great big bath towel. Well let me tell you why I wish I had one in my bathroom yesterday.

It was the morning time - not the best of times - but hey I have 4 teenage daughters. I was in the bathroom shaving or at least trying to shave. I kept getting kicked out as everyone migrated towards this room to fix hair or put on makeup. Anyway back to my life, my cell phone rang so I answered it because the call displayed came up and it was a buddy of mine. He didn't want anything so we chatted for a minute and hung up. I placed my cell phone on the edge of the counter and finished up shaving, not giving it another thought.

Just at that time my wife walks by the bathroom and politely reminds me to clean up after myself and make sure the sink and counter are clean like she had it. Ok i'll be honest it was exacvtly polite (we've been married for 26 years)what she really said was "don't leave a mess like you always do" - "do you think you can handle that after all this time" Well I was going to show her.

Not seeing a small towel nearby I picked the large bath towel off the floor where I was going to fold it nicely, (later) I then proceeded to show my wife I cared, I wiped out the sink with it and then started wiping off all the drips on the counter. Just about then I took a large fast swipe along the counter top and didn't notice my cell phone sitting close to the edge because the towel was kind of too big to use.

Needless to say the cell phone went flying off the bathroom counter into the toilet with one big splash. Yes it was turned on and yes I had to reach down to my elbow to fish it out. After rasising it from the deep, I noticed that it was fryed and I spent the rest of the morning looking for a new cell phone to buy.

Who do I blame: well my wife of course because if we had proper bathroom hand towels I could have used one of them instead of a great big bath towel. My stroy is that I would have seen it if the towel wa smaller. And just in case you are wondering what I did with the towel after I dryed my arm off from being in the toilet. I hung it up in my wifes bathroom (Just kidding) but I did think of it.

I have to go now because my wife bev will be coming into her office in a minute to work and I am not really allowed to post thing in her blog unless I ask. So much for 24 or maybe its 27 years of very happy years of marriage, honey

Planning a bathroom reno

Todays trends in homes are shifting from buying a new one to renovating an existing home. This is mostly being driven by the high cost in property. People are starting to understand that even though the price of their home has risen 300% if they are looking to buy a home in the same area or city, the cost is relevant and of no benefit to reducing your mortgage. What is cost effective now is to either renovate the entire home or add an addition. Normally people start with the bathroom, either making it larger or upgrading the fixtures and tiles. If you go to this page on our main home decor site you can read more about how to get started with a bathroom renovation and replacing your water closet and here to read about lighting for a bathroom

Traditional clawfoot bathtubs

Redecorating your bathroom to a more tradional look. If you want this in your own home, you may consider adding a clawfoot bathtub. A clawfoot bathtub is very popular for people who want to have a classic American look in their bathroom.

There are different styles in a clawfoot bathtub. There are bathtubs that are made from cast iron or acrylic, the style varies from roll top, dual and dual slipper. Each style allows you to choose different kinds of feet for your clawfoot bathtub like a ball & claw, lion paw, imperial pedestal and skirt.

If you are a strict traditionalist and want a clawfoot bathtub to have that original look, you may want to consider having a cast iron clawfoot bathtub. These bathtubs can be painted and repainted to match the décor in your bathroom. Cast iron clawfoot bathtubs are heavy and are not suited for people with bathrooms in the second floor of their house unless you know the floor is built strong enough. The alternative is a acrylic clawfoot tub that is light weight and easier to move and install. Acrylic clawfoot bathtubs are good insulators that can keep your water warm longer.
