Sometimes the best way to upgrade your cooking utensils like your pots and pans, is not to buy a complete set but to add slowly overtime higher quality stainless steel pots and pans.

I like to buy my saucepans and pots this way because it allows me to buy better quality from different manufacturers. Sometimes you can't get the shape you need, if you buy a complete set. You will notice that in most chef's kitchens the pots hanging on a rack above the cooking area are all different. This is because not all brands cook the same way or as fast. Some recipes should be cooked with a brass bottomed pot while others you need non stick cookware or stainless steel.

For most people buying a set is usually the ideal way to purchase new pots and pans. High quality sets are usually on sale most of the time and it takes the guess work out of it. Chefs are the ones that design and put together the most essential items that you need to cook with.

The quality and the price is also controlled to a certain degree by the materials (it is as important as the brand name). These materials will enrich the flavor and save you time preparing your meals because they heat more efficiently.

One kitchen item that you cannot do without is a cast iron frying pan, this is a staple for all kitchens. They are high in price but they will last you for 30 years.
